Animá Supporter Profiles

Spread the Word

Welcome... and thank you for your interest. That you were drawn here to this site, work and extended community, says as much about you as it does about us. We greatly appreciate any commitment you can make to provide essential financial support in these difficult times, as well as to help get the word out about Animá opportunities and services.

For as little as $25 per month you can be an honored Animá Supporter, one of the few committed benefactors whose regular donations this school, its teachings, and the wildlife and botanical sanctuary depend on. Those of you unable to make such a commitment at this time can make a donation of any size, at any time, either for general use or earmarked for a specific project that you want to see to fruition. You can read more About Your Donations below, and see exactly what your dollars fund in the detailed What Your Donations Provide section. There are Non-Monetary Ways Of Contributing for you to consider, including gifting material items you may not need. And if you would perchance enjoy assist in any way with either vital research or outreach, then please take the time to read the separate Spread the Word page. We’d love to have your able and heartful assistance!

About Your Donations

rhibutterflyThere is no charge for Animá courses, events, services or materials per se, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. Instead, there are suggested amounts for voluntary, sliding scale donations. The School and Sanctuary have absolutely no source of income other than donations from the grateful people it serves and the assistance of a precious few Animá Supporters, making both the land and teachings entirely dependent on your generosity in order to survive, let alone thrive. These include the restoration and rewilding of the botanical and wildlife sanctuary land, as well as the publishing of books and blogs, developing new courses, organizing and hosting workshops and conferences, and especially offering services to folks who have either little or nothing to give back. In addition, none of the directors/teachers have an outside or fixed source of income, let alone savings accounts or medical insurance. Very few of the magazines that Animá teachers write for actually pay anything for the pieces, which are written at great effort and submitted with great hopes solely to awaken, stir or inspire those who might need it the most.

Please understand that all donations must be considered as gifts according to the tax code, as Animá does not have official nonprofit status in spite of functioning much the same as a nonprofit does.

You can make a donation through PayPal here

Donations can also be sent in the form of checks or money orders made out to:

Gretchen (Loba) Geggis

P.O. Box 688, Reserve, NM 87830

Larger donations can be made my direct deposit, please write for details.

What Your Donations Provide

riverhandsAs someone donating for an Animá service or book or contributing as a Supporter, you are directly funding the following projects and more:

• The creation, promotion and distribution of new Animá Lifeways & Herbal Correspondence Courses, the development and promotion of Workshops, and providing Health Consultations and Personal Counsel... for all who might benefit from them, regardless of their current ability to donate.

• Sweet Medicine Press, the Animá publishing arm, making possible the production, printing, promotion and distribution of life-changing Animá Books & Recordings.

• The gifting of books to libraries, learning centers & engaged activists and seekers. Some of the people who need and deserve them the most, are also the least able to pay for them.

• Getting Animá lessons and tools out through inspired magazine articles as well as various internet forums and both the Animá and Medicine Woman’s Roots Blogs. Without your help, the authors would be unable to afford the time to write down their valuable insights, or to get them printed in important but nonpaying magazines. Loba, Kiva and Jesse’s work is currently enjoyed by readers of dozens of regional and national periodicals including SageWoman.

• The providing of free digital or photocopied articles, interviews and manuscripts to anyone requesting, spreading this nature-informed perspective to interested and needing folks from all over the world.

• The development, production, server and maintenance costs of the Animá Lifeways & Herbal School website, not only a means for outreaching books and services, but also a free resource featuring articles on nearly every imaginable topic, plant medicine recipes and informative herbal profiles.

• The preservation & active restoration of the Animá Botanical & Wildlife Sanctuary, a rare Southwestern river ecosystem. Once largely defoliated, the Center & Sanctuary now features a lush willow and cottonwood forest that’s home to diverse wildlife such as endangered songbirds, elk, bears, lions, raptors and waterfowl.

• Solar powered LED lanterns, and solar Outdoor Lights

• Rechargeable AAA batteries

• Construction materials of various kinds

Animá Supporter Profiles

It is a great pleasure to honorhe few, essential Animá Supporters by acknowledging them here. Some have been grateful folks whom the Sanctuary and teachings personally aided or inspired. Others have been neither students nor guests, and make contributions largely because of the School’s policy of turning no one away due to an inability to pay, or else began donating after witnessing the effect that Animá insights and service has had on others. Supporters are moved to pledge a continuing level of assistance because of a deeply felt connection to this work and the place that fosters it. If you are considering offering Support yourself, it is hoped that you will allow your profile to be featured here next to these much cherished allies.

Shay3RESOLUTE, Root/Core Supporter, is one of our most committed contributors, as well as one of our most empowered students and first Apprentice. Resolute competently and enthusiastically proofreads all our writings, spearheads our Sweet Medicine Press publishing of Animá book titles, and helps manage and serve as the Treasurer for the Traditions in Western Herbalism Conference. It is her name that comes up when we want to cite someone as an example of radical honesty, responsible action, and utilization of whatever is given. She is truly a boon to everyone she encounters, in her work and in her life. Even when wearing her professional clothes she is an unmistakable woman of magic and power, and when her hair is braided, the strands of life, love, earth, service and purpose are seen tightly woven together. We treasure in our “Northern Owl”, delight in her, and are at least as committed to her growth and fulfillment as she is dependably devoted to the furtherance of Animá.

nickfamily1THE MORGAN FAMILY are a dear and sweet component of the Animá family, community, Sanctuary and mission. Nick and Sloane live with their wonderful boys Paris, Jeremy and little Django, at the center of an intimate neighborhood and wide ranging circle of activists, artists, musicians and visionaries. They are actively creating not only a life of beauty, but also true, earth-respecting community through their art and activism events, concerts and related projects. The Animá mission is wholly dependent on a costly satellite internet provider and server for maintenance of the website and blogs, receiving email queries and submitting articles, today sponsored directly by the Morgans. Nick, in fact, was the second person to ever help with donations of any kind, and his family have supported Animá longer than anyone. Like all Supporters, it means a lot to them to hear about about the continued restoration of the canyon ecosystem, as well as the many people who may not have may not have received inspiration or guidance without the Morgans’ assistance and love. It does so much to reduce worry and stress, knowing their continued help can be counted on even through trying financial times.

ChrisCHRIS talks about the satisfaction her commitment to and association with Animá brings her, from sensing the many ways she is able to help this project give to the world. After decades as a school teacher, she has sworn off compromises, retired from her job and moved on to the work of remaking her reality. One of the ways she is doing that magic is by eschewing the antidepressants that so long helped her cope, learning to embrace the depth and extremes of delicious as well as agonizing conscious existence. Another way has been connecting to and drawing ever closer to nature, and bravely taking on the challenges of valuing, growing and rewarding her worthy self. We are honored to have her so deeply with us in our efforts to teach, publish and inspire, and to be here for her in turn as she deals with the difficulties, utilizes the lessons and savors the satisfaction of life wholly and deliberately lived.

Occasional Supporters

The following are dear folks who help sporadically, whenever they can, as often as they’re Dennis1able.

DENNIS FRITZINGER is a campfire poet, champion of nature, and longtime compadre of Wolf’s. While we don’t hear from him often, it seems he makes an unexpected donation always just when we need it for some crucial but unforeseen expense.

Silver1

SILVER explained how after a series of disappointments, she had finally found the “real deal” here in Animá. We too were excited to have found another kindred spirit, honoring the land, adhering to a code, and walking her talk.

LEE HURWIT likes to send a contribution whenever he can afford to, and we in turn do what we can to see and acknowledge who he really is, providing clarity when asked, assisting with and being witness to his personal growth and growing public service.
